Aesthetic Breast Surgery & Breast Reconstruction

A holistic approach to form, symmetry, and body image

Breast surgery encompasses a wide range of procedures, extending from purely aesthetic enhancement to complete reconstruction following disease. The common denominator of all interventions is respect for form, symmetry, and function, as well as an individualized approach to each woman.

Breast reconstruction does not simply involve the placement of an implant, but the creation of a complete breast, with emphasis on aesthetic harmony and symmetry. According to pan-European guidelines, every patient should be informed of all available reconstructive methods, even if the surgeon does not personally perform them.

Aesthetic Breast Surgery

Aesthetic breast surgery is intended for women who seek improvement in shape, volume, or symmetry, in the absence of oncologic disease.

Procedures include:

  • Breast augmentation, with emphasis on natural proportions and appropriate technique selection. When fat transfer is not feasible or sufficient, augmentation is performed with implants selected according to the patient’s anatomy and goals.
  • Correction of breast asymmetry, using a combination of techniques when required.
  • Breast reduction (hypertrophy), aiming both at aesthetic balance and functional relief.

Each procedure is individually planned, with a focus on the long-term stability of the result.

Breast Reconstruction for Pathology-Related Conditions

n cases of hypertrophy, severe asymmetry, or other pathological conditions, surgical reconstruction aims to restore the normal form and function of the breast, while simultaneously improving body image.

Management is based on:

  • careful preoperative assessment,
  • appropriate technique selection,
  • and realistic planning of the reconstructive stages.

Total Breast Reconstruction After Mastectomy

Total breast reconstruction following mastectomy represents one of the most demanding fields of reconstructive surgery and requires specialized expertise and close interdisciplinary collaboration.

In close cooperation with breast specialists, procedures are performed:

  • at Attikon University Hospital,
  • as well as at the IASO Group private clinic,

with the entire patient pathway coordinated—from oncologic surgery to final reconstruction.

Reconstruction may include autologous techniques such as:

  • DIEP flap,
  • PAP flap,
  • TDAP flap,
  • lumbar flap,
  • staged fat transfer,

with the aim of creating a natural, living, and symmetrical breast, adapted to the patient’s body.

Goal of Breast Surgery

The goal of aesthetic breast surgery and breast reconstruction is not only the aesthetic outcome, but the restoration of bodily balance, self-image, and quality of life.

For this reason, breast surgery at Dr. Athens is fully integrated into the Medical Transition Program, with continuous medical guidance and plan adjustment at every stage.
